Destino final is a photographic and investigative journalistic project focused on the events and consequences of the Argentine military dictatorship. From 1976 until 1983, the military waged a war against “subversion”, thus attempting to exterminate all their antagonists. For aproximately 5.000 opponents of the Argentine dictatorship, final destination gained an atrocious meaning: drugged. unconscious, and loaded on military planes, infamously known as the “death flights”, they were thrown, still alive, to the Rio de la Plata, just before it reaches the Atlantic Ocean; their final, definitive destination. Just a few of their bodies were recovered. Their families are still looking for their remains and are seeking punishment for the guilty.

Destino Final, as a project, includes the search for the death flight planes, conducted worldwide by Ceraudo and Lewin, a successful investigation that brought to the discovery, after more than 30 years, of five Navy planes used for the “death flights” and of the detailed flight plans kept on board.

Destino final are the Spanish words for “final destination”, the final arrival place of any plane trip. It is also the name of an ongoing project of Italian photographer Giancarlo Ceraudo in partnership with Argentine investigative journalist Miriam Lewin, a former desaparecida.
